Songs About What I’ve Learned So Far

Mike Ball started his musical career in Hawaii at the age of 7 with a ukulele and a squeaky voice. By the late 1960s he was fronting a series of “garage” bands, writing songs like “What Do You Mean We Have To Quit Because Your Dad Wants To Put The Car Away!” Then, in 1969, having grown tired of having friends and money, Mike switched gears to folk music and never looked back.

Mike’s band Dr. Mike and the Sea Monkeys is named after a recurring character in Mike’s nationally syndicated humor column, What I’ve Learned… So Far. Dr. Mike is an advice columnist whose credentials as a counselor come from an online college of bar tending.

The group is pretty flexible from one booking to the next, but it often consists of a two-man trio with Mike and drummer Nick Spagnuolo. Sometimes includes Grammy Award-winning harmonica virtuoso Peter Madcat Ruth shows up for Mike and Madcat shows. Sometimes Mike finds himself on his own.
